It has been over a decade since I was in a theatre to see a production and that was for "Shaun the Sheep" (my kid was a toddler at the time). So, the thought of going to see a play based on Terry Pratchett's "Going Postal", felt slightly more grown up.
I am not an aficionado of Terry Pratchett's work but I am a fan and I went along with an expert to check it out.
On a sodden Friday night, families, couples, friends and strangers piled into the Pleasance Theatre in Edinburgh, looking forward to a fun night and we were not disappointed. The Strawmoddie Theatre Company put on their own interpretation of "Going Postal" with a distinctive panto feel; complete with songs, a horse and throwing sweets into the audience at the end of the show.
The show itself had a couple of standout performances... Lord Vetinari stole the show (for me, anyway) and Mr. Gryle relished his role and swallowed every scene he was in. The most book-accurate characters were the aforementioned Vetinari and the Wizard Ridcully.
All in all, it was obvious that the cast and production team all equally cared about the content, remained loyal to the book and have a profound respect for everything Terry Pratchett.
You can see them next June (2025) in Terry Pratchett's "Feet of Clay" (Play) at the Pleasance Theatre in Edinburgh as part of Cymera Festival...
