Review Wyrd Sisters Live, Boulevard Theatre - Milford Haven
Rachel and I have seen many adaptations of Wyrd Sisters over the years, and it's always fun to see how different production companies handle the play.
First though the venue. From first looks it's obviously a show bar with cabaret style seating with a long bar at the back. The stage covers one complete side of the theatre that Vision Arts had split into three sections. A large open area in the middle with two smaller sections on either side. To the left was a witches cottage - we guessed and was later proved correct that this was Nannies cottage. And on the other side of the stage was a couple of Throwns one each for the Lord and Lady Felmet excellently performed by Gethin Morris and Sharon Thompson.
Of course the main characters of Wyrd Sisters are Granny Weatherwax, Nanny Ogg and Magrat Garlick. Vision arts were lucky to have three amazing actors in Kate Ashley, Sarah Serif and Elin (no surname provided). The chemistry between the three was very good and it was fun to see Nanny get most of the best lines.
Director Adam Edgerley took the decision to keep the stages to a minimum with props brought on as and when needed. It made for very quick scene changes which kept the play moving along at a steady rate.
One of my favourite parts of this production was Owain Roach's Demon. Doing an impression of Matt Berry for the voice of the demon was inspired. Apparently it was something that Owain did once in rehearsals messing about and the cast decided it was the way to go.
All the cast we very good - I can't think of a single weak link. The production was a lot of fun and I hope that Vision arts will be looking to put on another Pratchett performance at some point in the future.
