1. Editorial

Next week The Shepherd's Crown will be released in the UK. This "extra" issue of Discworld Monthly is a round-up of Waterstones events that we know of. Other book stores are available and may be holding events but they haven't contacted us so we don't know about them. Sorry!

The official launch date is midnight on the Thursday 27th August 2015.

We have been in contact with a number of Waterstones stores. The following three stores have suggested that they will be celebrating the new novel but haven't yet confirmed details to us. NEWBURY, TAUNTON and WORTHING. Visit the head office site at www.waterstones.com to get contact details for these stores.


2. Events taking place on Wednesday 26th August

Waterstones Piccadilly (London) - THE SHEPHERD'S CROWN OFFICIAL MIDNIGHT EVENT. Tickets for the event sold out (within 12 minutes) but you are welcome to come along and queue from 11:30pm to sample the Discworld experience and to purchase a copy of The Shepherd's Crown when it goes on sale to the general public at the stroke of midnight.

If you were able to purchase one of the 200 tickets you will get information about what time to arrive at Waterstones Piccadilly with your ticket.

Waterstones OXFORD are celebrating the launch of The Shepherd's Crown from 11:30pm on Wednesday 26th August 2015. Join them for a quiz and a midnight launch.

Waterstones NEWCASTLE will open at 10pm with the book being sold from 12.01am. They will have a Nac Mac Feegle hunt, unseen university challenge and a very special menu in their Ankh cafe.

3. Events taking place on Thursday 27th August

Waterstones SWANSEA in conjunction with Discworld Monthly are holding a launch event for The Shepherd's Crown on Thursday the 27th August from 7pm - 9pm.

It's a FREE Event with a Quiz, Readings and a prize for Best Costume! Jason Anthony and Rachel Rowlands from Discworld Monthly will be in attendance.

Waterstones in NOTTINGHAM will be Celebrating the life and works of Sir Terry Pratchett from 6.30pm. There will be a Discworld quiz, costume competition, sausage-inna-bun and other tasty delights and dramatic readings.

Waterstones HARROGATE is celebrating the release of The Shepherd's Crown with a "Terry Pratchett Night" Starts at 5.00pm.

Come along to discuss the wonderful books that Sir Terry wrote and join in this special event.

As well as discussion there will be a quiz and other fun activities.

Waterstones LEEDS are celebrating the launch of The Shepherd's Crown with a Pratchett celebration evening at 7pm.

Join them for an evening celebrating one of the great fantasy writers ever to have lived, Terry Pratchett, on the release day of his final Discworld novel, The Shepherd's Crown.

There'll be a quiz full of random Discworld and Pratchett tidbits, a competition to find the best Discworld-inspired outfit (shotgun the luggage...) and more prizes that you can shake a giant turtle at (though four elephants makes all the difference).

Waterstones DUNDEE will be having an all day event on the 27th August.

Activities include:

- Drawing Competition - Draw your favourite Discworld Character (open to all ages!)

- Discworld Treasure hunt - There will be six characters from the Disc hiding around the store, find their names and claim a reward.

- Giant Collage - An 8 foot long Discworld themed colouring in sheet.

- Fancy Dress - Come in Dressed as your favourite character and claim a reward (we are going to be offering a prize for the best dressed!)

- Discworld Quiz - answer a host of fiendishly difficult questions to test your knowledge of Discworld Lore (there is going to be a prize in it for one lucky customer!)

Events are running all day so feel free to nip in at any time to enter the competitions, browse the store and grab a coffee.

Waterstones MANCHESTER DEANSGATE will have a special lunchtime event to celebrate the release of the final Discworld Novel, The Shepherd's Crown. They will be hosting Discworld games and running a fiendish Terry Pratchett quiz before Terry's close friend Rob Wilkins reads from The Shepherd's Crown and stamps each book with an exclusive stamp to mark this special occasion. Each ticket will include a copy of The Shepherd's Crown and a goody bag.

Wadfest 2015 takes place this week. The event kicks off on Friday and runs through until Monday.

20 years ago on the 12th August 1995 the first ever Discworld Event took place in Woolpit, Suffolk, England.

Bernard and Isobel Pearson were in the midst of it and want to share their memories with fans old and new.

They now have a blog that can be found at: www.thecunningartificer.com which marks the day and their times with their good friend Terry Pratchett and all things Discworld.

It's mostly harmless but may contain nuts.
