Newsletter 5 - February 2025 - Better Than a Poke in the Eye

1. Editorial

Welcome to our 5th Better Than newsletter. Sadly, once again, we need to remember the name of a recently departed Discworld fan. Martyn Wetton recently passed after a short illness. Martyn is survived by his wife Cate. Rachel and I only met Martyn a couple of times and he seemed to be very much a gentleman. We hope you'll help us speak his name, GNU Martyn Wetton, Mind how you go.

Last month we talked about the sad loss of Chris Gibbs, since then we attended his very moving funeral and wake afterwards. Many a bottle of VK blue was consumed in Chris' honour (it was his favourite drink). It was, for us, an opportunity to catch up with friends and to celebrate Chris' life. At the moment we appear to be mostly catching up with friends at funerals and wakes.

Now the reason this issue is a couple of days late. On Saturday we visited Birmingham for a non-Discworld friend's birthday. We spent most of the day, chatting, eating cake and generally relaxing with friends. But leaving Birmingham at gone 11pm to drive back to South Wales meant we didn't get home until nearly 3am. So, much of Sunday, when we had planned to finish the newsletter, was spent in our pjs.

As you'll see in this newsletter filming has wrapped on Good Omens Season 3. The important bit with the actors and cameras is done, but now the work of making these moving images into a TV series has only just begun.

Good Omens season 3 has now officially finished filming!

Does that mean we'll get to see season 3 soon? Well no, not really.

Now the magic starts. The editors, the special effects teams, the foley artists, adr, music departments etc. all have a part to play in transforming the filmed footage in to a television series.
