Newsletter 8 - May 2025 - Better Than a Poke in the Eye
1. Editorial
Welcome to issue 8.
This month has found Rachel and myself totally consumed with clearing out our rental property. It's been a bit of a war of attrition to clean out all the rooms and to leave them in a clean and acceptable state. We finally handed back the keys to our now ex-landlord on Saturday much to everyone's relief.
So where does that leave us? Well we've got a lot of work to do on the new house, we have to prepare for Fantasy Forest and we'll be putting tickets on sale for Llamedos 2026 in just under a month.
So, June will be a month of juggling priorities, updating websites and balancing our time. We'll also fit in a small trip to Great Yarmouth too to ride some roller coasters and a visit to Milford Haven to see a production of Men at Arms (see our events page).
We've just had a review of Wyrd Sisters as performed by HAODS which will appear on our site over the next couple of days and will appear in next month's newsletter.
Llamedos Holiday Camp will return in 2026 with the theme being The Hogs Ball. You'll get the opportunity to enjoy end of year festivities with 150 of your closest (soon to be) friends at the beginning of March 2026.
Come to the Hogs Ball, it will be a cracker. 1
Tickets will go on sale on the 1st July 2025. We just need to have one more meeting with Paul at the, now 4*, Diplomat Hotel to lockdown the last few things.
Jason
Hi all, A very stressed out and tired Rachel here. Life has been bonkers this last few months !
Just a few things to add to the universe of stuff on our radar.
The team behind the amazing Phineas and Ferb will be unleashing the first ten episodes of a brand new series of Phineas and Ferb on the world on the 6th June on Disney plus. I cannot wait as I love the animated series especially Doofenshmirtz and Agent P. If you haven't seen it, do give it some of your time.
Paul Kidby has another exhibition for your viewing pleasure in Weston Super Mare. "Designing Terry Pratchett’s Discworld – 30 Years of Paul Kidby’s Illustrations " The exhibition is now open (has been for a couple of weeks) and will be open until 30th August. After this it will move to Worcester - we'll have more details on this next month.
I recently watched an independant film called Explorer from Another World. It is available to watch for free on Amazon Prime and I believe elsewhere.
It was made by a small team of just 19 people who made it for fun and is a homage to the grindhouse sci-fi comedies of the 1970's.
I was fortunate enough to come across the director Woody Edwards on Reddit who told me they made it originally for their youtube channel and made it when they had spare cash from their paychecks.
There is a behind the scenes documentary on their YouTube Channel called Blood, Tubes and Air compressors which is as long as the film.
The film itself is a fab little romp, it's meant to be a little rough around the edges, the wigs alone made me laugh. It's worth 40 mins of your time if you like B-movies of the 60's and 70's. Do go and find it and give it a watch.
The German Discworld convention happened last weekend. From the photos I've seen, it looked like great fun. The next one is planned for 6th-9th May 2027.
It won't be long until we see information coming out for the International (UK) Discworld Convention which is scheduled to happen in 2026. We look forward to that.
That's all for now.

Review of Sunrise on the Reaping (a Hunger Games Novel)
Having been a fan of the Hunger Games novel I was pleased to be gifted the 5th book in the series.
Going back to the 50th Hunger Games and finding out much more about Haymitch Abernathy who you will remember as the drunken mentor of Katness Everdeen and Peeta Mellark in the earlier books.
Sunrise on the Reaping digs deep into Haymitch's life, loves etc. and we get to see what drives him to become the person we think we know.
