Welcome to the very last newsletter of 2019 - I've personally only got two working days left this year and plan to see the last week of the year out in the company of good friends. All of us at Discworld Monthly wish you a very happy Hogswatch and a prosperous new year.

You may have noticed some changes in the newsletter this month. One of our affiliate partners have changed their rules about how we can display affiliate links. Which means we can no longer include them in the email version of the newsletter. So from this issue onwards we will provide a link to a page on our website that will contain all the affiliate information for that issue. Obviously we are annoyed at having to make this more difficult for you guys but it was either that or just move over to being fully web based and just having the email to let you know a new issue is available on the website. 2.1 Good Omens on BBC TWO and Award News
The BBC have finally announced that Good Omens will have the terrestrial premiere of Episode One on BBC Two on Wednesday 15th January at 9pm until 9.50pm.
Note : Currently the BBC website is stating BBC Two EXCEPT Wales
Until the official full listings come online, we will not have confirmation of when viewers in Wales will get to see it.
Either way it will be available on BBC IPlayer shortly afterwards.
Good Omens recently won an award - It won Favourite On Demand Show at the TV Times Awards earlier this month. Congratulations to everyone involved.
↑≡2.2 Neil Gaiman and Friends on BBC Radio
We wouldn't normally tell you about Neil Gaiman's exploits on radio but this one has a distinct injection of Terry in it.
Neil recently had a night of readings, conversation and song at the Barbican, London which was recorded for BBC Radio
Titled Playing in the Dark, Neil Gaiman and the BBC symphony orchestra, it is getting two outings over the Christmas period.
Firstly it is being played on BBC Radio 3 on 23rd December at 7.30pm in its entirety. The event is 2 hours and 28 minutes long.
BBC Radio Four have an edited version of the event split into two parts.
Part one (57 mins) will be played on Christmas day at 6am on BBC Four with Part Two (57 mins) being played on New Year's Day at 3pm
Featuring Amanda Palmer, David Tennant Simon Butteriss and the BBC Symphony orchestra, Playing in the Dark has Neil weaving his dystopian visions with music to thrill and excite the senses.
Amanda Palmer sings A Nightingale Sang in Berkley Square and also reads Neil's poem The Mushroom Hunters, Simon Butteriss sings The Nightmare Song from Iolanthe and David Tennant reads from Good Omens.
Both versions will be available on the BBC Sounds app shortly after broadcast.

As we exclusively revealed last month Hakeem Kae-Kazim is playing Captain John Keel so here is a round up of the latest cast.

Directors Brian Kelly and Emma Sullivan have now been announced, joining Craig Viverios.
The Watch series is being made by BBC America and will consist of 7a episodes. Its currently being filmed in South Africa.

↑≡2.4 Troll Bridge - The Final Final Final Chapter

The epic Troll Bridge story continues onwards. The guys at Snowgum Films really expected to be shipping DVDs and Blu-Rays by now but unfortunately things, in the Troll Bridge universe are never quite that simple. It turns out that due to regional differences etc they need to produce several versions of the discs. Which is causing some headaches.
The team are desperately trying to lock down the final edit of the making of documentary which weighs in at around four hours the last I heard.
Rest assured the team are hard at it and the physical media will get sent out in 2020.
If your donation included access to the screening are you should have recently been contacted with information about how to access the streaming area.
The ability to back the production has now been terminated. If you haven't already backed the project it is now too late to do it. Finally after 17 years Troll Bridge is complete.

↑≡2.5 A new Podcast from Bernard Pearson - And then he said to me.
Bernard Pearson and Rob Wilkins sat down in the Chapel (The name of Terry's office) and recorded their thoughts and memories of Terry. You can hear all about them in "And then he said to me" the new hour long "Hogswatch Special" podcast.
It is hugely entertaining and full of anecdotes and wonderful stories.

Four releases on the radar currently for 2020.
In February we can expect the Paperback edition of Good Omens the Script Book. THis appears to be a paperback of the white edition of the Script book with the additional deleted scenes included.

In April a new academic look at Terry's books will be coming out.
Terry Pratchett's Ethical Worlds: Essays on Identity and Narrative in Discworld is edited by Kristin Noone and Emily Lavin Leveret
This collection of essays uses inventiveness and creation as a thematic core to combine normally disparate themes, such as science fiction studies, the effect of collaborative writing and shared authorship, steampunk aesthetics, productive modes of "ownership," intertextuality, neomedievalism and colonialism, adaptations into other media, linguistics and rhetorics, and coming of age as an act of free will.

In July we are really looking forward to Marc Burrow's Biography called The Magic of Terry Pratchett. Published by Pen and Sword, word on the street is that it will be launched around the 20th July. Not available to pre-order just yet.
In August a new collection of short stories by various authors will be published by Puffin books.
The Puffin Book of Funny Stories has stories and extracts from best-loved classic authors Joan Aiken, Terry Pratchett, Dick King-Smith, Rebecca Elliott, Humza Arshad, Henry White, Julian Clary, Sam Copeland and other contemporary writers.

↑≡4. Review: The Ankh-Morpork Archives

As the blurb on the back of the book states: "The Ankh-Morpork Archives (Volume 1) brings together four editions of the infamous Discworld Diaries into one deluxe, digitally re-mastered compendium".
The first volume contains the contents of: Unseen University (1998) , Assassins' Guild (2000) , Thieves' Guild (2002) and Post Office (2007) . The text was originally spread out throughout the books whereas this book brings them all together in one very neat package. While the text and images are the same. They have been reformatted to fit the new larger size book. I noticed that some images have been flipped due to repagination. The intro letters from the heads of guild have also been made to use fonts to make them appear more handwritten.
I found it fun to go through and read this book. Having all the information in one place makes it a whole lot easier and more likely to read. In the past I collected the diaries and took a quick look at them and them and then put them on the shelves and never read them again.
I really hope that the book is a success and will spawn more volumes.
↑≡5. Review: Troll Bridge Showing in Bristol.

This came as a bit of a surprise as it was not part of a film festival. This showing was a charity fundraiser for Alzheimer's research and the cost was as much as you wanted to pay.
It was at "The Exchange" in Bristol which is usually a music venue, and there was a long list of events in November which included "Troll Bridge"!
There was an appreciative audience of about 50 people who listened to probably the most uninspired introduction to any film ever. The bloke introducing it said "You probably know more about this than I do so here it is."
I'm sure you don't need me to describe the film. If you haven't seen it and have not backed the film you need to find a friend who has and get them to let you watch it. The landscapes are magnificent, Don Bridges IS Cohen the Barbarian, and the song is just brilliant. The individual trolls are great characters, and whether that is due to Terry's writing or the brilliant CGI, or both, I'll leave up to you to decide.
With such a lacklustre introduction it was not surprising that the start of the song at the end was masked by applause, and by a certain wife shouting "Shut up. Listen to the song", but she did the trick and we heard once again the full version of Martin Pearson's "The What Cohen Did Next Song".
All in all a mixed night, the film was as good as ever with a 4/10 for the venue and intro. However it was well worth it.
↑≡6. TERRY PRATCHETT'S VINYL DISCWORLD - Demon records
Written by Stephen Briggs (who wrote the sleeve notes) comments on the end product.
This is, it seems, a time of collectable treasures. Fans have already had the opportunity to invest in one, or more, of a range of luxurious editions of 'Good Omens'… I think there were/are five options? At a time when vinyl is enjoying a big revival, a number of audio dramas have also recently been issued in collector's vinyl editions.
I was pleased to see that the Discworld Series was recently included in the BBC's list of '100 Novels That Shaped Our World'. It seems only right then, that the seven Pratchett books dramatized by BBC Radio should now receive the vinyl treatment. These include "Mort", "Wyrd Sisters", "Guards! Guards!", "Eric", "Small Gods", "Night Watch" and the, non-Discworld, "Only You Can Save Mankind".
Demon Records have produced a boxed set of all seven, transferred onto 15 vinyl LPs.
Many of you will remember the original series, which featured an impressive cast which included such well-known voices as Anton Lesser, Sheila Hancock, Martin Jarvis, Melvyn Hayes, Philip Jackson, Alex Jennings, Lynda Baron and Mark Heap
I should, I suppose, also mention that each drama's sleeve includes notes on the book written by me. I can't comment on the quality of those – but I can say I was very flattered to be asked to write them.
The collection arrives in a classy, substantial box decorated with a view of the Discworld map and A'Tuin. Inside is a cool card with a graphic combining Terry and his world. Then there are separate, illustrated sleeves for each drama. Each individual LP is stored within a further internal 'bag' (as they style them) and these contain portions of the Discworld map so that – should you wish, they could be laid out to form a complete map. That sort of nice attention to detail is what makes this look like a project someone has spent time and effort over.
The complete edition of 15 retails on Amazon for almost 180 GBP, which seemed a lot to me when I first heard. But on a per-disc basis, that's probably the going rate for vinyl?
It's a very cool set for completists and for those really do like their sound on vinyl.

Rachel says - A press release came out on the 19th November with news of the additional cast. Ruth Madeley is playing Throat which we believe is a variant of C.M.O.T. Dibbler although they have the character described as "the city's best snitch, with a gang of freelance henchmen at her beck and call."

We may not be perfect designers, or award winning journalists but we do our best to keep you all entertained and informed about all things Terry. We do have some ethics though. We like our news to be current, up to date and factual with a solid source. We don't like posting rumours but occasionally the source it comes from is 98 percent solid so we will tell you it's a rumour and confirm it when we have a 100 percent confirmation. Our own articles are written by us for us only. You won't find articles from other publications here unless it's a formal press release about an adaptation, book release or event or something we actually wrote for someone else unless they begged us to publish it (OK not begged but some of our lovely friends do ask us occasionally to boost something) . [NB I say we are not award winning but Discworld Monthly did win Website of the Month for Issue 3 back in a different century.
