Newsletter 3 - December 2024 - Better Than a Poke in the Eye
1. Editorial
Welcome to issue 3 of the Better Than a Poke in the Eye newsletter. In December we rounded off 2024 with a visit to Waterstones in Bristol to hear Rob Wilkins (and guest Marc Burrows) talk about Paul Kidby's new book Designing Terry Pratchett's Discworld. It was a fun evening with mulled wine and mince pies and the chance to catch up with friends and chat with Marc and Rob. While we were there we picked up a copy of the book and I recently found time to read it. You can see what I thought later in this issue.
We also got invited to a production of Going Postal in Edinburgh, but that was just a bit too far for us to travel so we sent our local reporter Lesley-Anne to review the production for us.
Just before Christmas Rachel went into hospital for a surgical procedure and is now back at home recovering well. Hopefully once fully healed she'll be back to her old self.
We will be moving to a new home at some point in 2025, we'll keep you abreast of the progress and don't foresee this affecting these newsletters too much.
Thank you for your continued support during 2024 and we look forward to catching up with you more in 2025.
Jason
PS. Happy new year!
Happy New year of the Luminous Lemur to all our wonderful readers.
December brought lots of plans, cancelled plans and ultimately surgery which many of you knew I have been waiting for the last few years. We are so fortunate to have the NHS in the UK, and I was pushed over to a private hospital in a bid to bring down the waiting list times. The team at St Joseph's were fantastic and although I slept through Christmas Day, getting lots of sleep has done the recovery process the world of good. Thank you for all the kind messages.
So what does 2025 bring to the table?
A handful of Terry Pratchett book releases, some new translations of the Idefix books I love and for us, a new Ben Aaronovitch book and we'll be taking the Portal to Discworld to the wonderful Fantasy Forest.
Planning and organising Llamedos Holiday Camp's The Hog's Ball is high on my agenda as tickets go on sale on the 1st July.
Anyway, as Jason said, we need to move house in amongst all the madness.
Rachel
